New state election laws and a staff vacation may impact potential candidates in this year’s Davison City Council election. The deadline to file nominating petitions is Tuesday, Sept. 16, but City Clerk Rosemary Simpson is scheduled to begin her vacation Sept. 13. Because of the time to check signatures and a new requirement for candidates to prove U.S. citizenship, Simpson hopes candidates will file early.
Troop 178 Scouts Kristopher Cameron, Matt Pifher, Matthew Hale and Joshua LeClear were accompanied by adult leaders Jason and David Kuiawa at the 1997 National Boy Scout Jamboree, July 28-Aug. 6 at Fort A.P. Hill, Va.

Davison police officers and the city have reached tentative agreement on a contract that calls for no wage increases this year. “We believe it’s an agreement,” said Sgt. Robert Kuster, chief spokesman for the city’s five police officers. “It still has to be ratified by the council, though.”
Davison and Goodrich area police will line up against a team from Flint radio station WKMF at the Davison Regional Park for a benefit softball game. Proceeds will go to a new children’s park at Hurley Medical Center.
Three members of Davison Ride-N-Shine have qualified for the Michigan 4-H Achievement Days competition at Michigan State University. They are Kelly Block, 16, riding huntseat; Steve McGinnis, 15, riding western color breed; and Lori Reid, 17, riding western quarter horse.

Excavation is complete for the new Davison Community Swimming Pool, which is being constructed near Davison High School as part of the athletic field there. The T-shaped design will make it possible for divers to enjoy the pool without monopolizing it and endangering other swimmers.
Announcement has been received that James and Peter Rayner and Robert Cross, all of Davison, have been accepted as junior members of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America, Brattleboro, Vt. The boys became eligible for membership by completing satisfactory dairy club work with registered Holsteins.
The William and Robert Carter families spent Sunday at Edgewater Park. They saw Miss Ardis of the TV Romper Room.

AUGUST 23, 1907
Good weather again favored our two-day racing and ball tournament, and Davison was visited by one of the largest crowds ever here, everyone being happy and satisfied with the sport.
Joe Peters and Mernie Jerome, while fishing in the Kearsley one day last week, caught two large turtles, one weighing 17 and the other 10 pounds.
We will grind no more feed at our mill until after harvest. Uptegraff Bros.
