Students demonstrate spirit of 'Care and Share'

Zoi Elisavitis and Renee Williams represent Annette Shumaker’s seventh grade runnerup class in front of their Care and Share doo

A walk through the halls of Davison Middle School will help anyone understand what Care and Share is all about.
Students again this year had a contest decorating homeroom doors with the Care and Share theme (accompanied, of course, by a collection of goods for the annual Davison Christmas charity).
The grand prize (breakfast) winners were students in Jan Crawford’s seventh grade class, but others showed great creativity. (A full report of class winners may be found — with color photos — at www.thedavisonindex.com.)
Each year, Davison Care and Share helps hundreds of local families who would otherwise have a bleak Christmas.
Because all the work is done by volunteers, those who donate know 100 percent of their gifts will go straight to their neighbors this Christmas season.
The annual effort involves schools, churches, businesses, service clubs and “just plain folks” who respond to the need.
For those who would like to help (and the days are counting down fast), please take note:
• Donations of clothing and toys (new or like new) and nonperishable food items may be made at the offices of The Davison Index, 220 N. Main St.; the Missing Sock Coin Laundry, 9220 Lapeer Road; and Walgreen’s, State Street at Cypress Drive.
• Cash donations are always needed to help purchase fresh food items and to fill in the gaps for other items. Make checks payable to “Davison Care and Share.” Donations may be dropped off at the Index office or mailed to P.O. Box 100, Davison MI 48423.
• Call The Davison Index at 653-3511 to volunteer to help with collection and distribution. Volunteers will be needed especially the week of Dec. 10 (that’s next week!) to sort donated items at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, 1523 N. Oak Road, and Saturday, Dec. 15, the day donated items will be distributed to families at St. Dunstan’s.
• Also call 653- 3511 during regular business hours Monday through Friday to submit the name of a needy family (with the number of adults and the age and sex of children in the home).
Distribution is a bit earlier than usual because of how Christmas Eve and Christmas fall on the calendar, so please make donations no later than Friday, Dec. 14, but earlier would be appreciated.
