Christmas came early for the Cardinal hockey team when they drew Flushing for their first game of the season, and the first of three games in four days that saw the Cards get a win, a loss and a tie.

This is a down year for Flushing and the Cards had no trouble posting an 11-1 win over the Raiders at Perani Arena Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Adam Green began the scoring 1:41 into the game and Kyle Van Wormer added a goal at 6:44. With 2:08 left in the period, Travis Carto found the net and ignited a scoring spurt that had the Cards hit the net four times in just a minute and 43 seconds, and the period ended at 6-0.

Cory Mills began the second period, scoring at 1:50, and VanWormer’s second goal at 4:57 started a running clock. Davison added three more goals, and the Raiders managed to get a goal with 3:33 left.

Adam Green and Van Wormer led the scoring with two goals, with Tony Campbell, Carto, Trevor Gooslin, Ben Marengo, Cory Mills, Ben Welch, and Dylan Welch earning solo goals. Helping with assists were Dan Allard and Campbell with two, and Mike Allard, Tim Donnelly, Gooslin, Conner Hilgendorf, Colin McMillan, Jerry Van Gilder and VanWormer getting single assists.

The Grinch came in the form of Division 1 finalist Muskegon Mona Shores, who handed the Cards a 5-2 loss at the Polar Palace on Friday, Nov. 30.

The Sailors caught Davison inattentive at the first faceoff and shot the puck into the net nine seconds into the game for the only score in the first period. The Sailors scored again at 7:15 and Davison answered with a goal nine seconds later. Less than a minute later, the Sailors added their fourth goal with 41 seconds left in the period.

Nick Horton got Davison’s last goal at 5:39 in the third period. Muskegon got their final score during a five on three power play with 3:22 left, and the game ended 5-2.

Donnelly and Horton got the Cards two goals with assists from Carto, Gooslin, and Aaron Green.

The Norsemen from Gross Pointe North invaded the Polar Palace, on Saturday, Dec 1, and the Division 1 semi-finalist settled for a 3-3 tie.

Neither team was able to score in the first period. The Norsemen scored first on a power play at 7:05 of the second period, and a Dylan Welch slapshot tied the game at 11:20. The Cards went ahead less than a minute later on Dylan Welch’s second goal. The Norsemen answered with 2:14 left in the second period, then went ahead at 1:23 of the third period. Donnelly tied the game four minutes later, and that ended the scoring. The teams played one scoreless overtime period and the game ended 3-3.

Marengo aided the effort with two assists, while Dan Allard, Aaron Green, and Dylan Welch got single assists.

Next on the schedule is Rochester at the Polar Palace at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 5, then Haslett comes to the Perani Arena for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
