Volunteers hustle in last week of 'Care and Share'Those who love "last minute" should love this week. Saturday, Dec. 15 is distribution for the annual Davison Care and Share program. A full year of fundraising work — and several weeks of volunteer work collecting other donations — climax this week. Buses with collections from Davison Community Schools will roll in this week, as will all the goods brought in to The Davison Index, the Missing Sock Coin Laundry and Walgreen’s. Last-minute donations of clothing and toys (new or like new) and non-perishable food items should be taken directly to St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church (Oak and Davison roads), no later than Friday, Dec. 14. Cash is still needed to help with purchase of fresh food and to fill in the gaps for other items. Checks made payable to "Davison Care and Share" may be dropped off at the Index office. The scene at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church is always one of wonder. Volunteers help families with food boxes, clothing and toys, while children enjoy visits and photos with Santa. Each year, Davison Care and Share helps hundreds of local families who would otherwise have a bleak Christmas. Because all the work is done by volunteers, those who donate know 100 percent of their gifts will go straight to their neighbors this Christmas season. The annual effort involves schools, churches, businesses, service clubs and "just plain folks" who respond to the need. Call 653-3531 to volunteer or for more information. |
